We are delighted to present a double bill of Gian Carlo Menotti's operas: The Old Maid and The Thief and The Telephone. From spicy gossip to mistaken identities, this double bill is sure to have you in hysterics.
Performed in English with a running time of two hours including interval, this double bill is an ideal experience for both opera aficionados and first-timers alike.

The Telephone will be presented first followed by a 20 minute interval. It follows two young lovers trying to spend a few precious moments together before Ben has to catch his train. He’s ready to ask a life-changing question—but will Lucy’s constantly ringing phone get in the way?

The Old Maid and The Thief returns to Mopoke Theatre Productions for the first time in twelve years! It opened to rave reviews in 2013 and we are so excited to be bringing it back to South Australian audiences.
It tells the story of how far an older woman and her young maid might go for their affection toward a handsome stranger — and what might lead an honest man to steal... This “Desperate Housewives of the 1930s” is a delightfully funny yet poignant one act opera. Menotti's wonderful melodies and cheeky humour skilfully explore themes of love, morality, companionship, freedom and social status.

Featuring some of South Australia's best artists, this will certainly be a night to remember.
